Summary

"I am a Senior Policy Officer with the Refugee Council of Australia, the national peak body for refugees and the organisations and individuals who support them. My work involves research, policy development and advocacy on national and international issues impacting refugee communities. I am admitted to practice as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Victoria and volunteer as a refugee lawyer at Refugee Legal. I completed my practical legal training with the Human Rights Law Centre, where I worked on the case of M68/2015 v Minister for Immigration and Border Protection. I am completing a PhD at Monash University in refugee and human rights law. My PhD investigates Australia’s extraterritorial migration control activities in Southeast Asia. These operations, run by Australian agencies in partnership with local authorities in Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries, aim to prevent asylum seekers reaching Australian territory in order to apply for protection. My research explores the extent of Australia’s involvement in these operations, and the extraterritorial application of Australia’s human rights obligations in regards to these activities."--About.
