Les Morrison (known as Lucky Starr) was born at Mascot, N.S.W. recalls his family background; his mother's influence on his love of classical music; his school years at Beverley Hills, N.S.W. ; his first job at Hornsby, N.S.W. after leaving school singing & playing in a band for physical culture group demonstration; Australian material, idiomatic songs; contract with Festival Records 1957; reasons for changing his name to Lucky Starr; Hepparays Band 1962 (were Festival Record House Band); talent quests; relationship with other entertainers; cabaret material, Buster Noble's & Tommy Tycho's influence; studying at the Conservatorium of Music.
Starr talks about the background to the song I've been everywhere man which became a national hit; his music career on the American club circuit; performing in Vietnam, including on American military bases; material sung in Vietnam; change in musical direction, progressing to country music; RCA records contract; show Thank your Lucky Stars in Tasmania; buying an advertising company; back to singing rock and roll.
