Frank van Straten born 1936 in London, talks about his early life and his parents; moving to Australia; his early interest in collecting; his first gramophone; collecting stamps with encouragement by his father who was a keen philatelist; starting a collection of theatre programs; an interest in printing; his various positions before moving into T.V. advertising and script writing; setting up his first record company, Heritage Records; preparing a history of the Tivoli Circuit; the circumstances leading to his appointment as the Curator of the Performing Arts Museum and the Victorian Arts Centre; the considerations when setting up the museum and obstacles to overcome; the effects on the museum when the archives were flooded; exhibition policy and museum displays; the exhibition "Bourke Street on a Saturday night"; the opening night of the museum in 1982; the changes in 1984 and the staffing structure; the administration of the Concert Hall and how it impacts on the running of the Performing Arts Museum; the reasons behind his retirement; his radio program on 3LO; his book on Gertrude Johnson.
