Reg Hart talks about his father being a horse-breaker and kangaroo shooter; attending Charleville State School; his family situation during the Depression, hunting and fishing for food; his siblings; leaving school to work as a stockman (c. 1930); first droving trip with Jack Drinnan; cattle and sheep drovers; droving trip with Albert Clarke and his father to Dalgonally (1932), droving plant, stock camp work; George Boland; droving cattle from Morstone with his father's outfit (1933), droving plant, size of team; working during the drought (1934); the character of Dalgonally bullocks; living in Brisbane caring for mother (1934-35); droving for 9 months down to Winton with his father and Dougal Cameron (1935), collecting additional Murranji bullocks; working in mustering camp at Alroy; the mistreatment of Indigenous stockmen; becoming boss drover at 21 yrs old; the attempt on his father's life by another stockman; Claude and Tom Burns; his marriage (1941); being committed to Alroy station until end of WWII; the introduction of road trains and sale of droving plant; moving to Brisbane after war with wife and three daughters; Working at track work to become a race horse trainer, foreman at the Golden Circle for 25 years; his ability to read a racehorse; learning horse care and other skills from his father; father's racing experience and droving reputation, his care for travelling cattle; contract droving prices, payment on number delivered; Terry Lewis; bookmakers; police corruption, the 'Rat Gang'; the confidence and independence gained during years of droving; gambling; overseas travel; his satisfaction with his life.
