Tidly Triffett, retired stockman born 1931, at Julia Creek, Queensland into a family of six boys and six girls speaks about his schooling at Julia Creek, leaving after the fourth grade; droving with a brother after leaving school; working as a drover until 1976; their longest trip being fourteen weeks; owning a pack horse plant and buying a truck; the different breeds of cattle, English and Brahman cattle; cattle rushes; his brother competing in America as a buck jump rider; his brothers fighting in the war; after retirement still working, breaking in horses and mustering; how he works with greenhide making ropes, halters and other objects; his marriage in 1963 which lasted four years; gathering with other workers in Brisbane for holidays.
Triffitt tells a story about crossing the Burdekin river; he then goes on to talk about modern cattle work; the introduction of helicopters; John Wait, a friend who has owned a number of properties in the district; mustering horses; Jack Sherwin, a bushman; explains the phrases 'tie his irons' , 'dirty on the ground' and 'dirty on the back'; his attitude towards horse whisperers; the changes in breaking in methods; names some good horsemen and buck jump riders; horse camps and how they were run in the past; different types of working horses in a camp; shoeing horses; the qualities of a good night horse; 'sidelining' horses; the effects of flies on horses.
