- Biography/History:
-
Cataract Dam is located on the Upper Nepean and collects water from the Cataract River catchment area. It is the oldest and possibly the most picturesque dam in Sydney's water supply system. Completed in 1907, the 56 metre high dam holds water from a 130 square kilometre catchment, forming an 850 hectare lake with a capacity of 94,300 megalitres.
- Notes:
-
- Map of the dam site near Cataract Junction where the Cataract River and Cataract Creek intersect. The sketch plan shows the general locality of the dam, in particular its catchment area west of the Illawarra Coast Range and the river system. The three sections show the height and width of the proposed Cataract Dam. The local sketch shows the relative position of the dam and its catchment within the Sydney Water Supply catchment area.
