Summary

Meg speaks of the work involved in establishing the Discovery Museum & Genealogy Centre and Joe Lyon's Cottage in Stanley (Tas.); how the money raised through the museum had kept the local church going; Stanley being proclaimed a historic town in 1976; her personal experiences of Dame Enid Lyons; organising the Circular Head Arts Festival in 1976 which proved to be popular all over Australia; organising a Floral Festival; her interest in writing; writing feature articles for the Advocate (local newspaper); music- playing the organ Tune: If I know it I can play it; Tune: A busy person can always make time"; the influx of people during the war- Italian POW's appeared to be assimilated. Lin speaks about tourism in the early days compared to the present time; Smithton,Tas.; differences in accommodation from early days to the present.

Biography/History

Lin who was born in Sydney in 1924 speaks of his early days as a pharmacist; traces his career in the Army; working in the Public Service; riding a pushbike around Australia; arriving in Tasmania in Feb. 1947 to initially work at a variety of jobs; his successful interview with Dept. of Education for a position as a Physical Education teacher for which he was unqualified; applying for war service land and farming it.
