- Summary:
-
Clair and Jaye speak about their mother Delma and their aunt Ann, who were removed as children and placed at Doomadgee Mission, Qld. around 1931. Delma's and Ann's mother followed and set up camp outside the Mission and eventually secured a house on Doomadgee Mission. Clair and Jaye recall their mother's description of the harsh conditions at Doomadgee and her anger at being separated from her family. Later Delma and her husband decided to move to the Northern Territory to ensure their children were educated. Clair speaks about her schooling at Tennant Creek and about later attending Hobart Teacher's College. When her parents died in 1971, Clair brought her siblings to live with her in Launceston. Clair was awarded legal custody of her siblings after a two-year legal battle during which the two youngest siblings were held at Kennerley Children's Home. Clair and Jaye speak about the need to reconnect with their relatives and people.
