Bringing them home oral history project.

Summary

Mansell, artist and Indigenous separated child, speaks about his early childhood on Flinders Island, Tas. He was removed with a younger sister from his family around the age of 8. About a year later, he was separated from his sister and transferred from receiving home to receiving home until he was adopted by a family in Hobart. Mansell describes conditions at the Salvation Army Home at New Town, and talks about the prejudice he encountered in school and his feelings of isolation amidst his adoptive family. After leaving school at the age of 16, he worked in a variety of jobs. He is currently living on Bruny Island. He expresses his views on separation, which he believes created more problems than it solved.
