Chamberlain, former Federal President of the Australian Labor Party, speaks about his childhood in London, WWI and its aftermath, moving to Western Australia at the age of 23, the development of his political career, political figures of the day (Mitchell, McCallum, etc.), union activities and disputes (incl. West Dairy Company dispute and 1944 Tramway Union strike), the Communist Party, public attitude and parliamentary representation for the union movement, Dr Evatt, Sir Robert Menzies, Arthur Calwell, Pat Keneally, and the decline of the Labor Party.

Joe Chamberlain (1900-1984) was a very active union and Labor Party member, serving as the A.L.P. Federal President (1955-61), Federal Secretary (1961-63), W.A. Trades Union Industrial Council Secretary (1949-62), and on numerous other committees and delegations.
