The collections include: letters 1854-55 from Valentine D. H. C. Elwes to his mother written mainly from W.A.; papers 1849-88 of Eleanora, wife of Charles Fitzgerald, Governor of W.A. 1848-55; journal 11854-55 of V.C. Elwes describing a journey to Egypt and Australia; Letters 1866-80 from Henry Edward Michel and his family to W.D. Fane referring to New Zealand, Arthur Orton and the Tichborne trial; selections 1791-97 from the diaries of Matthew Flinders, father of Matthew Flinders the explorer, referring to his son's voyage and promotion; correspondence 1800-07 of Matthew Flinders Jnr. to his family referring to his circumnavigation of New Holland and imprisonment on the Ile de France; correspondence of Capt. G.R.P. Jarvis including letters from Lachlan Macquarie. Also includes Ancaster papers, Monson papers, Turnor papers and other papers.
