The family was expelled from Indonesia in 1950 and emigrated to Sydney. Following the breakdown of her marriage, Merlin Moy became the first female welfare officer in the Northern Territory. She outlines her duties, including serving as minutes secretary to the State Children's Council, which authorised child removals. She also describes the living conditions in Darwin.
