Wotton speaks of her grandmother folk performer Sally Sloane, her father as a toolmaker at the Small Arms Factory, how rabbiting is done with ferrets, the union at her father's workplace and the strikes that occurred at the Small Arms Factory, her mother's background being an active sportswoman but not musical, her own schooling leaving after the Intermediate Certificate, her job history and changes in the retail industry, Lithgow lacking class consciousness and snobbery, her memories of grandmother Sally Sloane who eventually moved away and they lost contact except at holidays, Sally's husband Fred Sloane and his work, Sally's work in looking after children, Sally's own children but not a close family now, Sally rarely performed, the instruments that she played and the songs she sang, describes her as a happy person when younger and very forthright, played bowls later in life, loved animals and was a Catholic once active in the Salvation Army, first married to John Mountford who preferred a nomadic life.
Wotton speaks of her grandmother Sally Sloane in her later days when she left to stay with her cousin Jean in Albury, her death in 1980 or 1981 [actually 1982], story about Sally at her daughter's wedding, her friends and relations, her house at Teralga, NSW, how Sally raised a stray child, memories of Granny Cleg, the town of Lithgow today, the importance of mining to Lithgow and what brought its demise, closure of the Berlei Factory, her own husband was a miner but was made redundant, strikes in Lithgow.
