Dr Colin Howard QC, Barrister and Professor of Law talks about his family background; childhood in North Harrow, London; schooling at West Harrow, Lower School of John Lyon and Prince Henry's Grammar School; army service and posting to Austria as part of an Intelligence Unit followed by job as a clerk in shipping and forwarding office. He then talks about his decision to study law; scholarship and enrolment at University of London; decision to emigrate; offered a lectureship at Queensland University then a senior lectureship at Adelaide University until 1966 followed by the Hearn Chair at the Melbourne Law School until 1990 when he became full-time at the Bar and in 1995 became Crown Counsel. Howard then talks about his writings, in particular, his law texts; comments on Australian law schools and outstanding legal figures such as Michael Kirby and Murray Gleeson. He also gives his views on the Whitlam Government and his memories of events surrounding the Dismissal in 1975 as well as significant changes in Australian law.
