Jean Nixon, born in South Australia talks about her family background; her father's arrival at Lake Cargelligo, N.S.W. (1926); her early years on a farm near the Lake; the small local country school; childhood games played; leaving school at nearly 13 years of age, continuing lessons through Blackfriar's Correspondence school; local dances, musicians, songs and suppers; Master of Ceremonies (MC) who had control of the dances; marriage to a local man (1945); life on a farm between Euabalong and Hillston, N.S.W.; the role of rural women; her involvement in the Lake Cargelligo Historical Society since it's beginnings(1968- ); major changes to the rural community of Lake Cargelligo during 20th century, including improvements in available medical services and opportunities for school leavers; the local Aboriginal community; craftwork, patchwork and quilting; community work at the Lake; bush remedies; Afgan hawkers; dances on the Lake island.
