Elizabeth Chin-Seet, marketing manager and active member of the Darwin Chinese community, speaks of her family background; transit in Sydney at time of Cyclone Tracy; discrimination experienced whilst a teenager; move back to Darwin, following university; Darwin Chinese community; Chinese women; involvement with Chung Wah Society & other Chinese associations; Chinatown Forty Two Exhibition; effect of evacuation during WW2 on Chinese community; organisation of trip by Darwin Chinese to China, 1988 as guests of the Chinese Government; contact with relatives in China; impressions of Guangdong; inability to speak Chinese; proposed move to Perth, W.A.

Biography/History

Born in Darwin in 1960, Chin Seet is related to many of the city's old Chinese families. As a younger member of the Chinese community, she has been active in the Chung Wah Society and in multilingual broadcasting.
