Deeral, an Elder of the Hope Vale Aboriginal Community and first Aboriginal member of the Queensland Parliament, speaks about his family background and about the evacuation of the Guugu Yimithirr people from the Hope Vale Lutheran Mission to Woorabinda, Qld. during World War II. He describes the living conditions at Woorabinda where they lived for eight years. Deeral also discusses his time as Chair of the Hope Vale Community Council and his term in the Queensland Parliament as the Member for Cook.
