Apthorpe speaks about her childhood on the family property near Gunnedah, N.S.W. In the 1930s, her father employed two Aboriginal houseboys from a nearby institution. She outlines how the houseboys came to be employed on the farm, their chores, and their interaction with her family and others in the district. Apthorpe also talks about the Aboriginal and Chinese communities in Gunnedah today.
