Folkloric recording. Les Partell sings and plays the guitar and autoharp and discusses his life. Partell speaks of presenting the Breakfast show on 2SM and how difficult it was to get records released; his interest in the Carter family music and learning to play in Carter style; learning from Clive Beaton. He comments on the lyrics in his material. Partell speaks of his association with the Victorian Banjo Club teaching children to play music; his trip to America; American musicians and music; his first guitar about 1944-1945; early influences on music in Australia (Hank Snow, Carter family, Clive Beaton, Hawking Brothers). He comments on Bill Earl recording his songs; forming the Trailblazers group (mandolin, steel guitar, bass guitar as instruments); the musicians of Nulla Nulla Creek (Kempsy region) doing the same pioneering work in Sydney; recording using wire recorders; recording in the freezer chamber for an "echo" effect; being recorded by Regal Zone (record label)

Partell, one of the early recorded "Australian hillbilly" singers, was born in Sydney, 1930. He lived in Mendooran, attended school in Clifton Hill, Vic; joined the RAAF Academy; gained a Bachelor of Science and later a Bachelor of Arts.
