Hood speaks about her mother who was removed from her family as a child. Hood was removed from her mother at around the age of 2 and placed with a foster family in Westmeadows, Vic. She recalls a visit by her mother and brother when she was 5. At around the age of 10 she was moved to the Koori Family Group Home in Essendon but the Home closed after 6 months and she was transferred to another Group Home in Thornbury. While she was at Thornbury, her mother and father visited separately and both tried unsuccessfully to have her released into their care. Hood was made a Ward of the State at around the age of 12, and her teenage years were unsettled. She later became involved with petty crime and substance abuse. At the time of this interview, Hood was serving a prison sentence at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre for Women. She expresses her views on the over-representation of Aboriginal people in prisons, and speaks about her two children and the support of her former foster parents in caring for them.
