Bringing them home oral history project.

Summary

Marjorie Van de Berg, a nurse and Indigenous separated child was removed from her family at Hillside Station, near Marble Bar, W.A. after the death of her mother. She and her brother and sister were taken to Sister Kate's Children's Home in Perth. She describes the living conditions at Sister Kate's. During World War II the children were sent to Roleystone and Greenbushes and it was in Greenbushes that she first worked, as a cleaner in a bank. Van De Berg later trained as a nurse, before marrying. She also talks about the effects of childhood removal on her life, her relationship with her father and other relatives, and her alienation from both cultures.
