Tony Ostler born Pappinbarra Creek, speaks about his adult life; his Army Service in WWII; dairy farming; retirement; his parents; having no transport on farm; his father taking up Soldier Settlement block at Pappinbarra (1920); dairy cattle; flood, fires and drought; hand fed cattle; the winters being cold in the high country; size of Soldier Settlement block; his siblings; his childhood activities; his education; the home environment, domestic duties; being self sufficiency, farm duties; methods of preserving meat; relying on the mail run for supplies; Hawkers from Lebanon and Syria; accidents and injuries on the farm; birth of children at home and at hospital; the traditional female role; viability of Soldier Settlement block and water supply; Returned Soldier Settlement Board; the Post Office Agency and connection of the telephone; religious affiliation, building a church on Pappinbarra; families in the neighbourhood helping each other in difficult times; Returned Services League and Anzac Day; his parents death.
