Kath Harvey talks about her family background; her father being in the middle of seven boys; his work on Woollongough Station; WWI, his enlistment and return to Australia due to illness; background information on her mother, her nursing training at Launceston General Hospital; her father working on the soldier settlement block, near Tarcutta, N.S.W. (part of Mates Estate), living in a tent while building a two room house, living conditions; sheep farming; his brother Harold, who was injured during the war having land nearby; rabbit plague, limited use of poisons; mail; Anglican Church, Tarcutta; transportation by horse and sulky, five gates between home and Tarcutta; her birth at Nurse Trotter's Nursing Home at Wagga Wagga, N.S.W.; family connections, social functions; her memories of two room timber house; mother's domestic duties.
Harvey discusses her education, attending boarding school at age eleven and earlier education with Blackfriers Correspondence School; working in a bank then joining the Army; Voluntary Aid Detachments (VADs); the family move to Howlong (1947); the poor treatment of WWI soldier settlers compared to after WWII; a severe bush fire at Tarcutta (1939); housing following the fire; mother's gardening skills; community life, Tarcutta Memorial Hall and Country Women's Association; Belling family; modern conservation methods, planting of native trees; markets and transportation; her family, husband serving in the Navy during WWII; government relations in Tarcutta, after WWI; the death of her parents.
