- Summary:
-
The report describes the development and validation of simulation-based inservice materials designed to positively change the attitudes of regular elementary teachers toward mainstreamed handicapped children. Results of pre and post-test comparisons on attitudes toward mainstreaming are said to indicate that the teachers scored significantly higher than a control group on a measure of the effects of mainstreaming on the teacher. Evaluation of the materials is explained to have been favorable on all three dimensions (design, content, and transfer effect). A recommendation is made to continue development and research of simulation-based teacher inservice materials, within a framework of comprehensive staff development and with investigations of the longitudinal impact on classroom practice.
