Folkloric recording. Graham Seal born in Canterbury, Kent, England is a Professor of Folklore at Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia. Seal talks about his musical life; reflects on his early influences, bands, the rock and roll era and culture of dances; mentions exploring musical genres and in particular folk music; the influence of Ewan McColl; his early attempts at song writing; discusses his connection with folk singer Phyl Lobyl; Seal relates his academic path leading to his PhD; talks of his continuing interest in folklore; the early bush band era; his folk/rock band the Steamshuttle; his recording and publishing projects; Seal gives his thoughts on the future direction of folk festivals; mentions his other musical interests; and talks about his early work, before academia, with the New South Wales Pollution Control Commission, particularly his role as Earthweek co-ordinator. Plays a medley on a dulcimer, and sings and plays 2 of his own songs.
