Bringing them home oral history project.

Summary

Wilson speaks about her removal from her family at the age of 3 weeks to be placed at the Benevolent Society Home and her subsequent adoption. She was not told that she was Aboriginal and only discovered the details through Link-Up in 1990 when New South Wales legislation changed allowing adoptees access to their birth data. Her birth mother was of the Ngiyampaa and Barkindji people, Menindee, and was removed to Cootamundra Girls Home around the age of 7 and later worked as a domestic in Vaucluse. Wilson speaks about attending Chatswood Public School; the views of her adoptive parents on her Aboriginality; meeting with her sister and brother; and her exploration of her newly discovered cultural identity.
