Tur, an Indigenous worker, speaks about her mother, an Antikirinja/Yunkunytjatjara woman from the Oodnadatta region, and about her early memories of traditional life. She describes living conditions in the United Aborigines Mission (UAM) Home in Oodnadatta, S.A. where she was placed for the period 1943-50. At age 14 Tur was sent to Adelaide to work, before studying to be a missionary at the UAM Bible College, Singleton, N.S.W. However, she was disappointed that the UAM would not allow her to return to Oodnadatta to work with her people. She then worked in a variety of jobs, including a job at Colebrook Home in Adelaide, before marrying in 1965. Since 1984, Tur has worked as an interpreter and Pitjantjatjara/Yunkunytjatjara language teacher. She talks about the long-term effects of separation on herself and others.
