Adams speaks of being raised on a number of farm properties in N.S.W., farming with horses and equipment and the quantity cropped, the working and housing conditions, attending subsidised schools, how he eventually went to Hawkesbury College in 1919 to learn blacksmithing, how his father went broke after he returned home, how they bought property at Forbes in 1920, the effect of the Depression on the price of wheat, how they managed through the Depression, recreations in the 1920s and 1930s at Forbes such as mini golf, studio and open air picture theatres and dances very popular at the Regal Dance Hall, how farms changed from horse teams to tractors and headers in 1938, how horses are vital for survival, how to work with the horses and the differences in their temperaments, how he went for a joyride with Kingsford Smith when he visited Forbes, description of aeroplanes in the 1920's and how Mrs. Taylor went for a joyride, what makes a successful farm, how 1990 was the most successful year overall, his interest in farm machinery, recalls driving his first car, his memories of Forbes with Flannery's Hotel closing at 6 pm., paying accounts only once a year, the great improvements in harvesting due to more sophisticated machinery, recalls his first tractor in 1925, swagmen in the Depression, stories about Binalong.
