Mr Nutter joined the Dept. of External Affairs in 1949 and was posted to Saigon, Katmandu, Delhi, Tokyo, Vientiane, Bonn, and Berlin before being appointed Ambassador to the Philippines, and Italy and as Commissioner to Papua New Guinea.
