Few sheets were updated with revised editions, and almost none after 1995. Due to obsolete data and complex sheetline structures - which hindered disaster management and response - as well as emerging digital technologies, the series was replaced from 2006 by a new, standardised state-wide digitally-produced double-sheet coverage.
- Numbering Note:
-
- Sheet numbering originally followed RASvy military conventions, being in the form of a 4-digit number signifying the 1:100,000 sheet, a Roman numeral (i, ii, iii or iv) signifying the respective 1:50,000 quadrant, and a cardinal direction (NE, SE, SW or NW) signifying the respective 1:25,000 sub-quadrant. Later sheets and revisions standardised each of the latter two numerations to regular numbering (1, 2, 3 or 4), clockwise from the northeast. Thus 7822-IV NW became 7822-4-4.
- Series includes six special sheets with no sheet numbering: Halls Gap Special, Phillip Island Special, and Wilsons Promontory NW, NE, SW and SE.
- Notes:
-
- Relief shown by contours, formlines and spot heights.
- Topographic map series of Victoria, covering more populated areas of the state, but excluding Melbourne urban area. Less populated areas in the nrothwest and the east were covered by 1:50,000 mapping instead; Melbourne was covered by a separate planimetric (uncontoured) 1:25,000 series published 1971-1974.
- Issued originally as single sheets (7.5' lat. x 7.5' long.), but as series progressed, newer sheets generally issued as double sheets (7.5' lat. x 15' long.). 13 sheets not issued due to availability of existing RASvy series R052 and R852 mapping. Two sheets (8225-I-NE Albury and 7822-4-4 Toolern Vale) issued despite availability of existing RASvy series R051 and R852 mapping respectively.
- Some sheets have extended sheet lines or insets covering adjacent sheets that had only minimal Victorian coverage and were not worth publishing separately.
- Index map covers both the 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 series.
