Howarth speaks about life in the Ecklin area between the wars; conditions on family property when they arrived in 1914; hunting; attending Ecklin School; playing cricket and football; local dances; local sawmills; migrants living in area; serving with the local Volunteer Defence Corps during World War II; impact of farming innovations; tin-kettling; card parties; the fire brigade; serving on the local council from 1957; drainage problems in area; local conservation strategy; local crime; local medical services; home remedies; the two halls at Ecklin; the mission hall; local characters; and funerary traditions.
