Maud Crang, a retired accountant, was born in Wentworth, N.S.W. She recalls her family background; her father's occupation as a land agent. She speaks Wentworth in the early 20th century; land ownership in the area; the town trading with Adelaide; the railway to Mildura; the rivercraft; cargo boats being owned by shops; Wentworth's history and social structure; the Depression years; her school years at the local Catholic convent, finishing high school at the public school in 1931 in Cootamundra, N.S.W., doing an accountancy course at Clarendon College at Ballarat, N.S.W.; joining her father's accounting firm in Wentworth during the mid 1930s; her mother's involvement in the local orchestra and Maud playing piano for the local choir.
