- Biography/History:

"Plate XX. The Rt. Hon. Sir Edward Nicholas Coventry Braddon was born June 11th, 1829 and went to India in 1847. Subsequently he accepted an appointment as Assistant Commissioner of Santhalia and served in the Santhal rebellion with favourable mention. In 1862 he was appointed Commissioner for Excise and Stamps, and later Inspector-General of Registration and Superintendent of Trade Statistics for Bengal. In 1878 he retired on a pension and went to Tasmania, where he entered local politics. In 1888 he was appointed Agent-General for the Colony in London. He was made a K.C.M.G. in 1891, and returned to Tasmania in 1894, when he became Premier of the colony. He was made a P.C. in 1897."--Typed note attached on reverse of image.
