- Summary:
-
The Japanese prints depict a storefront with customers passing by. A clerk with shortly cut hair and a moustache sits at a low table, a large book open before him, mixing an ink stick on a slab. At lower left two men kneel next to large trays filled with small cakes. Signs line the eaves below a blue curtain. The titles of the products on those signs are satirical ones. From the title of the print, the print reflects how the former Samurai people failed or struggled in the new way of living, such as, running a business, behaving as the superior one to the shop customers. The titles of the products on the signs were something sinister on the former samurais and government officials.
