The second of three books written for parents, professionals, and others involved in educating severely and profoundly retarded children offers detailed information regarding educational programing in the public schools. Two chapters on the public schools and one chapter on residential institutions contain sections which address the following topics: child find systems; evaluation, classification, and placement decisions; due process; modification of school services; setting life-long goals; curriculum; the individual educational plan; effective teaching methods; monitoring and recording student progress; basic components of a public school parent training program; placement, educational programing, professional staff, and parent involvement in residential institutions; and effects of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act on school programs within residential facilities.
