This Child Development Associate (CDA) module, the eleventh in a series of 16, accents the important role that parents play in the education of their children. Designed for bilingual/bicultural preschool teacher trainees, the module contains a brief introduction stressing the importance of the parent-child relationship and provides guidelines for involving parents in their child's learning at home and in school. Several suggestions for working with parents are made. Guides for parents who conduct home learning activities are offered. Emphasis is placed on talking with and listening to children, reading and telling stories, and the use of ordinary household objects to develop cognitive, conceptual and motor skills. The final sections of the module focus on nutrition and health. Minimum daily required nutrients are listed and a table of ethnic food composition is provided. Signs of illness which teachers and parents should recognize are indicated and the importance of immunization is pointed out. This module focuses on specific behaviors that directly relate to CDA Competencies 1 and 5. (RH)
