- Summary:
-
This is the first in a series of self-instructional modules dealing with common English idioms, and is intended for use in the learning of English as a foreign language. The idioms were selected for frequency and usage in up-to-date usage in North America. The situations in which the idioms appear are in authentic conversational English, many of them set in general business or governmental environments. There are fifteen sections, each containing ten idioms and appropriate contexts grouped under topic headings. In each section there are dialogs in which the student is to supply an appropriate missing idiom, choosing from the list of ten. As an aid, French, Spanish, and non-idiomatic English equivalents are provided for each missing idiom. The dialogues have been recorded for class practice in listening comprehension, and an answer key is provided at the end of the book. (Author/PJM)
