This report charts the progress of the attempt at Canterbury College of Technology to develop and implement a fully integrated course--a Business and Technician Education Council (BTEC) General Diploma full-time course in business studies. Section One describes the course structure. Section Two discusses staffing, including the composition and duties of the four-member team and results of team teaching. Sections Three and Four focus on two stages of the project: planning of the core curriculum and its implementation. Topics include analysis of the basis for the core curriculum, production of new material, relevance, initial implementation, and experiential learning. Section Five addresses assessments and profiling. Section Six is an attempt to evaluate project success. Observations are made regarding wastage rates, punctuality, attendance, progress, BTEC and project aims and objectives, and reactions of students, parents, and the course team. Section Seven discusses transferability of the teaching approach. Concerns include accommodation and departmental structure. Section Eight presents recommendations for colleges adopting an integrated approach to vocationally oriented courses. Appendixes, approximately one-half of the report, include details of the BTEC course, sample work program, assignment inputs and programs, base room layout and equipment, assessment grids, and questionnaire results.
