The Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools' Vocational Education Exemplary Project provided support for the establishment of critical linkages among all vocational delivery systems in the metropolitan Nashville area. The anticipated outcome of the project was an articulation model to ensure that instruction and guidance would allow students to (1) move with continuity and without hindrance from one level to the other, (2) be placed directly into the job market, and/or (3) make a meaningful choice relative to occupational pursuits. (Articulation was defined by project staff to mean the planned process that promotes the transition of students within levels of instruction as well as between the secondary and postsecondary levels of instruction and allows students to move with continuity and minimum hindrance through each level.) To determine how the Nashville area educators felt about working more closely with each other, a vocational education needs assessment was developed and sent to almost 500 secondary and postsecondary respondents. Generally, the educators agreed on what methods would be most effective to improve K-14 articulation in the Metro Nashville Community. In addition, respondents indicated that articulation activities were currently limited but that efforts were needed to bring about more cooperation and sequenced programming/instruction among the levels of the educational process. Recommendations were made as a result of the survey to implement articulation activities. (Appendixes include the survey form and extensive tables illustrating responses.) (Author/KC)
