This curriculum guide outlines three credits of study, one credit for each of the grade levels 10, 11, and 12. Intended as an optional study area for all students, the program provides awareness and exploration for those students who aspire to postsecondary study and introduces skills to those who wish to explore trades and technologies in employment after school. The program assumes that students who enter the program area will begin study at the 101 level. Each level has core modules and option modules that offer flexibility. Metalwork 201 is designed to expand the student's knowledge and experience in metalworking through a design technology approach. Metalwork 301 is designed to enable the student to achieve extended pretechnical and personal enrichment goals. Introductory materials include an overview, information on implementation, and goals and objectives. Fifteen modules are provided. Each has these components: major objective, student objectives, teachers' notes and suggested activities, and suggested materials. Module titles are student orientation and safety, product planning, measurement and use of instruments, basic machine tool technology, basic arc welding, basic oxyacetylene welding, sheet metal, bench metal, foundry practice, forging practice, metallurgy and basic heat treatment, art metal, advanced welding, advanced machine tool technology, and modern industry. A nine-page bibliography is provided, including a five-page list of audiovisual materials available in the Manitoba Education Library; 19 publishers are also listed, with addresses.(Y LB)
