- Summary:
-
This study assessed the validity of a tool for gaming venue staff to use to identify people experiencing gambling problems. Stage one of the study validated the Checklist of Visible Indicators (2007), which was developed to visually identify people experiencing gambling problems. The checklist was assessed with a sample of more than 500 regular electronic gaming machine gamblers across Australia. Stage two redeveloped the checklist into the Gambling Behaviour Checklist (GBC-EGM), a tool for venue staff to monitor and assist their customers. The practical validity of this tool was then assessed in 3 hotels in Melbourne in a 3 month trial.
