- Summary:
-
Graham speaks about his mother, who was one of the Kaurna people from around Point Pearce, S.A., and about his white father. He was removed at the age of 3 from his family. He speculates that one of the factors in his removal may have been that he had to wear callipers because of his malformed right leg and foot. He was placed in and transferred among many homes including Gerard Mission Children's Home, Riverland; Colebrook Home, Eden Hills; Red Cross Home; Kate Cocks Babies Home, Adelaide; Estcourt House, Tennyson; and Kent Town Salvation Army Boys' Home. He particularly outlines difficult conditions at Estcourt House and Kent Town Boys Home. He talks about the continuing effects of separation within a family and across generations, and the difficulties of the separated child in 'coming home'. Graham currently works as an Anglican Minister in the Hillcrest parish, and credits the beneficial effects of marriage and Christianity on his outlook.
