Background

Biographical / historical:
Robert Goodman (d. 1998) was an American photographer who worked for National Geographic. Goodman arrived in Australia in 1962 and departed in 1967, during which period he took photographs documenting different aspects of Australian life, published in The Australians (Rigby, 1966). Goodman was known for high quality professional photographs including portraits, industrial scenes, landscapes, street scenes, and sport. He influenced Australian photograpgers of the 1960s with his use of 35mm film and colour.
