The collection consists of material collected during Helen McCue's extensive career. It includes founding documents, minutes of annual general meetings, speeches, board meetings, annual reports, newsletters, media, fund raising documents, promotional material, and other material relating to her work with various organisations. There are also copies of public addresses given from 1981 to 2014 as well as various awards received by McCue and documents relating to projects such as small grants, scholarships and speaking tours by women refugees.

The APHEDA material also includes reports and addresses to the Australian Council of Trade Unions Executive and Conferences as well as detailed field reports on the political and social situation and the organisation's work in Southern Africa, the Middle East, Cambodia and the Philippines during 1984-1994. There is also correspondence with members of parliament and Australian Foreign Ministers, in particular Professor Gareth Evans.

The contents relating to the Sorry Books Campaign includes a copy of the over 1,000 signatures collected in the Southern Highlands, with the original held at AIATSIS.
