O'Brien speaks of her background and marriage, her husband's accident, how they heard of the Breakout, the soldiers search for the escaped Japanese prisoners of war, how her husband found the Japanese, how her husband and a 16 year old cousin shot the discovered Japanese on military instruction, how the Army later arrived to pick up the bodies, the traumatic effect on her husband, how some of the Japanese committed suicide, reference to a Cowra Breakout book, the community reaction in Canowindra with some sympathisers leaving food out at night, how they were alerted to the Breakout and its writeup in the local newspaper, her feelings towards the Italians as well as the people who shot the Japanese.
