MS Acc10.075 comprises collected speeches and lectures delivered by Sir James Gobbo between 1973-2009. There is an index to the speeches which are divided into three categories: pre-governorship, governorship and post-governorship. Subjects include multiculturalism and diversity, refugees, immigration and citizenship, art, economic development of Australia, law, Australian honours, education, languages, Italians in Australia, religion, the military and the National Library of Australia (2 boxes).
The Acc11.110 instalment comprises thank you letters, photographs and press clippings, and papers relating to Australian Aboriginal reconciliation, Anzac Day, caregivers, the Daniel Mannix statue, ethics, exports, and Sir James Gobbo's role as Governor of Victoria (13 boxes).
The Acc16.143 instalment contains papers relating to Sir James Gobbo's professional achievements, Vice Regal appointment and many interests. This consignment includes correspondence and clippings, and reflects Sir James' interest in immigration, multiculturalism, law, religion and citizenship (16 boxes).
The Acc18.090 instalment consists of transcripts, papers and speeches. Subjects include Vietnamese refugees, the national case on equal pay for Aboriginal stockmen, the Amalgamation Case and the Glover case (3 boxes).
- Biography/History:

Sir James Gobbo was born in Australia of Italian parents and spent part of his childhood in Italy. He has been a Rhodes Scholar, a barrister, Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria, 1978-1994, and Governor of Victoria, 1997-2000. In addition, his career has included government positions and activities relating to immigration reform and multicultural affairs, the Australian honours system, hospital administration and philanthropy. Amongst the honours awarded to Gobbo are Knight Bachelor (1981), Companion (AC) of the Order of Australia (1993), Knight of Grace of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem (KStJ 1997), the Centenary Medal in 2001 and Knight of Malta.
