Folkloric recording. Antonio Colla was born 1927 in Italy. He speaks of his family, who were all blacksmiths. Colla recalls the blacksmithing trade in Italy; being interned in Germany during the war at the age of 16 years; the harsh conditions in a concentration camp, eventually being freed by the Americans and the Russians; living conditions after the war; his early family life; how he learnt to sing with family members; the decision made to emigrate to Australia and the immigration process; arriving in Australia 1949 and settling in Griffith, N.S.W.; a job as a blacksmith at Bilbul; working two jobs to pay father for fares (240 pounds); starting his own business; the rest of his family decide to come out to live in Australia; life in Griffith in the 1950's and 1960's; clubs and church forming a significant part of life in Griffith; the formation of the Italian Choir in Griffith; dancing in the Griffith area. He describes the Mazurka.
