This document reports on the Association for Community Based Education's (ACBE's) 14th annual conference. The first section is an introduction by the conference co-coordinators. The other sections describe conference sessions on the following subjects: (1) ACBE's literacy program; (2) advocacy methods, models, and resource development; (3) the concept of culture and an examination of participants' cultural backgrounds; (4) what kind of economic development training is appropriate, what training is available, and the role ACBE might play in providing training opportunities; (5) the role of native language in community-based education; (6) how to run a small business and how to place entrepreneurial efforts in the context of a community-based education process; (7) how community-based organizations can integrate writing into their programs; (8) worker education from historical, community-based, and union perspectives; and (9) future initiatives for community leadership, including professional development, institutional performance and student outcome evaluation, and program and institutional support.
