Explains the Yolngu system of land ownership and customs; the bapurru, or clan, is the land and water owning group; the yirralka (or estate) is farmed, produce traded; different areas are used for different purposes - fishing, collecting eggs, planting, with laws for propagation and harvesting; discusses trespass and theft; clans are allied with larger groups called ringgitj; discusses the primary political ringgitj and its sovereign powers; concept of Yothu-Yindi.
