Lynette Davidson born 1942 describes her early memories of a home in Portsmouth, England; being at various homes run by the Church of England; remembers being asked if she would like to go to Australia; embarking on SS Ormonde to Australia; life aboard the ship; arriving in Sydney, being sent to Burwood then 'Normanhurst', a Barnardo Home; the group situation in the home; sticking together at school; her memories of the home; she talks about how they were put into the workforce when they turned 15 years of age; finding a job, working for an import company; attending Technical College.
Davidson speaks about being sent to board with a family at Killara and later a boarding house; meeting her sister on a Saturday night and how Barnardo's was attempting to part the two sisters; getting a flat and how Barnardo's reacted; receiving a letter from their mother and their reaction; marrying and moving to Gunnedah; her family; story about her mother's photo; her attempts to find their English family; getting her records; her plans to go to England and how they found the family; the Child Migrant Trust; having little contact with other Barnardo children; reading 'Empty Cradles' and being deeply affected.
